What makes a certain wave length bounce off an object? What makes grass green? And blood red?
Pigment is what gives objects their color. When light hits an object, certain colors (or wavelengths) are absorbed into the object. The color that is reflected is the color that we see. So, a blade of grass absorbs the wavelengths of all colors except the wavelength of the color green that we see. The green is reflected by the grass and is then transferred to our eye. Photopigments are a specialized type of pigment found in the eye that work withthe cones of the retina to help the eye reciece and process the light coming into the eye.
